
Dr. Leonard Bright
Professor, Author, and Champion of Accountability in Academia


I am currently a full professor at Texas A&M University’s Bush School of Government and Public Service. I earned my Ph.D. in Public Administration and Policy from Portland State University’s Hatfield School of Government. I have served as a tenure-track and tenured college professor at the University of South Alabama, University of Louisville, and most recently at Texas A&M University.
Over the years, I have held various leadership and academic leadership positions at the national, state, and university levels. These included serving as the President of the Southeastern Conference for Public Administration (SECoPA), President of Metro Louisville’s American Society of Public Administration (ASPA) Chapter, Vice President of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) Texas Conference East Region, Assistant Dean of Graduate Education and Assistant Provost in the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies at Texas A&M.
I have taught hundreds of undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral-level students on a wide-range of topics including public administration, ethics, human resource management, program evaluation, and public policy.
My scholarship centers on public management, with particular attention to motivation and performance in public service organizations. My work is published in leading academic journals and frequently cited, contributing to my recognition as a national expert on public service motivation.
